2011
The Main Trends project funded by FCT, publishing of an online book for education purposes and the production of a documentary that was screened at the DOC Lisboa 2011 lntemational Film Festival. CIAC has integrated the Africa and Latin America Observatory in the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Next Future Project. CIAC participates with experts in the EU Film Literacy Tender Bid, a European project coordinated by the British Film !nstitute.
ln the Media Literacy line of research, CIAC organized a panei with the participation of integrated researchers and young resea rchers at the 1 National Congress on Literacy, Media and Citizenship, at the University of Minho. The IIntemational Meeting of AIM- Association of Moving Image Researchers, was co-organized by CIAC and took place at UAlg. CIAC organized the Intemational Symposium Interactive-non-interactive: videogame meets video Art and the lntemational Seminar on Television Studies, a partnership with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Globo University. The incentive and support given to young researchers have resulted in a wide series of publications and participations in national and intemational congresses by CIAC collaborators who are completing M.A. and Ph.D. Programmes, which translates into extensive production of texts and opening of spaces to promete debate on research in the field of Arts. The year of 2011 was also marked by the inclusion in the centre of several renowned visual artists, such as Rui Sanches, Xana, Pedro Cabral Santo and Tiago Batista who, through their artistic and research-oriented production, have promoted interaction between traditional arts fields and new media. The presence of CIAC members in organizations such as SOPCOM, AVANCA, AIM, SOCINE, COMPÓS, among others, contributes to promete intemational dialogue between the production of CIAC and other research centres and universities allowing interchange and collaboration that enriches the field and gives continuity to CIAC’s project of development and dissemination of research in the field of image literacy.
2010
In 2010, many projects were developed: the ALGARTE Project, funded by Caixa Geral de Depósitos and UALG, winner of the Ceratonia Award, produced many documentaries and completed its research on Arts in the Algarve; the Main Trends project, received funding from FCT, produced a book online on contemporary cinema in Portugal and achieved its purpose for 2010. CIAC contributed to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation – Next Future Program. The Film Studies coordinator edited a thematic dossier «Filmic Languages in the European Collective Memory» for the 35th edition of the scientific indexed review “Comunicar” and, as a member of the European Commission Expert Group for Media Literacy, worked in guidelines for European policies on media literacy. CIAC organized a roundtable in AVANCA – Cinema Festival on Film Literacy with the participation of many CIAC senior and junior researchers. This group organized many seminars such as “Há Arte no video?” [Is there art in video?], which brought international researchers to UALG. The Project Cross Media Mixed Media in NIT and Performative Arts has been developed and the CIAC digital platform in arts and communication will be launched in 2011.
2009
In 2009, the ALGARTE Project, associated with CIAC and funded by Caixa Geral de Depósitos and UALG, won the Ceratonia Award, started collecting and organizing data to build a platform on the state of the art in the Algarve; the EUROMEDUC, European project coordinated by a CIAC researcher, held an international conference in Faro and its final congress in Italy. The coordinator of the International Platform of Scientific Dissemination project, Prof. José Jimenez, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, carried out a workshop concerning documentaries in high definition format for CIAC scholars and researchers; the Main Trends project received funding from FCT. The project AAQUA, in partnership with the Centre for Studies in Communication and Culture of the Portuguese Catholic University, proposed to analyze and evaluate the quality in audiovisual. CIAC has also contributed to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation – Next Future Program.
